                        Meet Sue and Darrell ...

The idea of lye based homemade soap as a small business was inspired by a trip to Montana in the late 90’s. I bought a few bars of soap and fell in love with it.  It created the ‘fire and desire’ in me to be the soap maker.  I attended a few soap making classes and experimented with soap making and scents.  In February 2000, I produced my first batch of soap -- which was a total flop!

Tirelessly, however, batch after batch, I finally “got it” – the wonderful recipe that today yields the luxurious and fragrant 5.5oz bars of heavenly soap lovingly produced by Little Soap Pleasures.

In 2006, I met my husband Darrell through a “dog rescue” effort that we both had a passion for and with his experience in candle making we created Flickers and Flames to combine with my soap making business.  Today, Darrell still oversees our candle department.  While still young, Flickers and Flames is open to new suggestions and ideas and we continually try new techniques.  Please send us your ideas today!

Darrell and I continue with our love of soap making, candle making and animal rescue to this day.  We are proud to produce top quality soaps, sugar scrubs, body butters, candles and to have rescued hundreds of homeless and abused animals of Eastern Kentucky.

Proceeds from both Little Soap Pleasures and Flickers and Flames go to help with food and medical care of these animals through our rescue, Sylvia’s Animal Sanctuary, a 501c3 organization.  You can see our currently adorable and adoptable rescues online at: http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/KY283.html

                        From our home to yours,

                        ~Sue and Darrell
